When did it all start?
Just thought I'd get a bit of discussion going on here. :)

Just out of curiosity, in series 1, when do you think signs started to appear that Mac might be falling for Caroline? It's complicated because at first he was all bent out of shape because of the news about Holly, so he was very rude to her (that "do your job, Dr Todd" scene), but then I suppose you could also say he was irritated by it so much because he was jealous, if you choose to see it that way.

The moment that did it for me was the housewarming party - the look on his face when he watches Caroline follow Guy off. That was the moment that made me just go "oh! He likes her!" Of course this had followed the "she could be your one..." scene, which was very sweet and sowed the seeds nicely. :)

What do you guys think? Any moments even earlier in the series that made you think there might be something there? What was the first defining M/C moment for you in series 1?

To finish, here's a quote from series 1 that I thought was rather fitting in light of how series 2 ended (and I just love it generally)...

Caroline: We didn't really get on before did we?
Mac: I wouldn't say that.
Caroline: Yes you would. You thought I was some sort of incompetent neurotic who went to a boy's barber, and I thought you were a rude, offhand bloke with ladies hair.
Mac: OK, being serious - maybe I would have said that, but I wouldn't say that any more. We seem to get on OK now, don't we?
Caroline: I hope so - I think we do.
Mac: ...Better late than never.

Well, the housewarming party obviously shows that he's just beginning to realise he likes Caroline.

For repressed Mac/Caroline love, I always liked the "scatterbrained floozy" scene with Sue White, personally. :)

I love love love the scene in ep 6 when Mac's describing their kiss at the party! and Caro gets all woooo-y:
"... and then I kissed you, clearly not on purpose."

The bit just after where she slides down the wall is PERFECTION :D

I also think the housewarming party is where he KIND OF starts to like her, but I think at that stage a lot of it is competition with Guy still (esp after the comment on the commentary saying that Mac's "only pretending" to like her at that stage). But I think his pretending turns pretty quickly into proper likeage :D I also love the remote controlled car scene. Tis love.

For me it's a toss-up between episodes 5 and 6. I love episode 5 for the 'She could be your one' scene and the bit where Caroline is wearing in her new shoes for the party. I don't know why but I really love that scene for Mac/Caroline. I think it's the way that he gets down on his hands and knees and copies her, and he's obviously amused by her. Before that episode there was always a bit of spite to mar any niceness between them (like the 'do your job, Dr Todd' scene that you've mentioned and the whole league table business in episode 4), but there genuinely seems to be a spark of friendship at that point in episode 5 which I love.

And obviously later we have all the smouldering looks and warm-fuzziness of the party goings-on. :D Nothing to complain about there!

As for ep6, I think that episode has the most scenes in it that make me go all squeeful for them. Like the bit where he flicks water at her and goes 'hello' with a nice smile when she just goes up to him and starts up again about the list of people she kissed at the party. Before ep5 you might have expected him to be all snarky at her for pressing on with that ongoing conversation, but he's really sweet towards her when she's going on about it in ep6.

I love the way the romance between them is built up gradually and how they start off on the wrong foot. It's kind of played down a lot in series 1 in a way that they couldn't really repeat in series 2 because it had obviously come to the front, plot-wise, by the end of s1. So even though the romance builds slowly, bit by bit, by the end of s1 you're rooting really hard for Caroline. I loved the bit in ep8 in the restaurant where Martin's trying to 'take things to the next level' and she's just gazing off into the distance and sighs and says 'I love Mac' just like that.

Awesome stuff. *looks at comment* Wow, that really set me off on full ramble mode. It's nice to reminisce though. :)
